Communications Proficiency

Overview

The college of Agriculture and Life Sciences requires 6.0 credits of English composition with a C or better (a C or better is required in each course) and 3.0 credits of speech fundamentals with a C or better.  Courses that can be used to fulfill these requirements are listed below. 

Note:  other courses can in some cases be used to fulfill these requirements -- please contact your advisor if you have any questions.

English Composition

The following courses can be used to fulfill the English composition portion of the communications proficiency requirement.

Note:  6.0 credits are required, and a C or better is required in each course.

  • ENGL 1500, 2500, 2050, 2070, 2750, 3020, 3030, 3040, 3050, 3090, 3120, 3130, 3140, 3150, and 3160
  • JLMC 2010 and 3470
  • AGEDS 3270
  • PR 3050

Note also:  if a student has transferred in English 2500 but has not transferred in English 1500, some BUT NOT ALL of these courses can be used to count towards the university's ISUComm Foundation Requirement:  English 2750, 3020, 3090, 3120, 3130, and 3140.  Please see the English Department's page on transfer credit policies for more details.  

Speech Fundamentals

The following courses can be used to fulfill the speech fundamentals portion of the communications proficiency requirement.

Note:  3.0 credits are required, and a C or better is required.

  • SPCM 2120, 3120, and 3130
  • AGEDS 3110
  • COMST 2140
