Tracking Earl the Fox (and family)

Fox sleeping in dead grass
Observing and taking pictures of the fox (and its family) is acceptable, but the animal should not be approached or disturbed.

Following sightings of a red fox (Vulpes vulpes), dubbed Earl, who calls the Iowa State University campus home, a group of Natural Resource Ecology and Management (NREM) undergraduates in assistant teaching professor Mike Rentz's mammalogy class would like to map out the home range of Earl (and potential family).

To do this, they need your help.

Here is a link to the ISU Online Campus Map. There you will be able to add a marker to the location/locations that best fit the area in which you saw the fox, as well as add notes about the sighting such as time, date, weather, etc. You can then share your map with Rentz's class by copying and pasting the share link into an email and sending it to them at redfox@iastate.edu. You will find these options in the top right portion of the map presented as shown below. If you possess pictures of the fox please send us those in the same email as your map.

If you have any questions, feel free to email the class at redfox@iastate.edu.
