Kayla Elmore (ANIMAL SCIENCE) figured that when she came to Iowa State, she would take some classes and then apply to veterinary school. But it turns out that one opportunity working with companion animals at a clinic in her home town lead to several others, which all make up one great adventure.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) has TEACHING AND RESEARCH FARMS for every species. These farms offer students hands-on learning opportunities in their classes as well as real-world work experience preparing them for future careers in veterinary medicine and beyond.
Though she hasn’t given up on companion animals and veterinary school, Kayla has now broadened her knowledge through hands-on class which took her to the dairy, swine, poultry, horse, sheep, and beef teaching farms. These opportunities opened her eyes to all of the possibilities that are available outside of veterinary school.
