A modern day tree-hugger

Maggie Harthoorn (forestry) is a modern day tree-hugger. She believes in education about trees, and studying the ways they can survive for years to come. To help, she rides her bike at an event called Tour De Trees, which benefits the Tree Fund - an organization that provides research grants, scholarships and educational programs to advance knowledge in the field of arboriculture and urban forestry.
As a forestry major, Harthoorn is learning how to make best use of those funds she collects for the Tree Fund. During an internship with the Iowa Department of Transportation she got her hands dirty installing a system to improve water flow at a wetland mitigation site, inspecting endangered clams at a potential mitigation site, and inspecting erosion.
With passion and knowledge, Maggie is set to make a difference in the world.
