Andrew McEvoy (agricultural studies) is officially a 6th generation farmer thanks to the purchase of farm land while a student at Iowa State, which is in addition to the small cow herd he already owned. So he knew his courses needed to prepare him for the ability to juggle the important tasks required to farm.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is home to the only student managed and operated farm at a land grant university in the United States. The Ag 450 Farm, so named after the course number, allows students to make the management decisions and understand practices of a central Iowa farm.
In his time as a student, Andrew has not only been able to get the hands-on experience, but also juggling several different activities. Between courses that provide a good background in business and production skills, leadership skills from clubs, service opportunities with honor societies and his fraternity, Andrew primed for success.
