When Jared Diehl (culinary food science) decided to join a club related to his major, he anticipated there would be some food and friendships made, perhaps even some information about career fields. He found that and a whole lot more serving in a leadership role.
Most majors within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences have a club for students as a place to network with alumni and professionals. Not only do clubs offer members the chance to participate in events, fundraisers, and club trips, they learn valuable leadership skills representing the club at functions or on committees.
As a representative from the Culinary Science Club to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council, Jared has improved his team and leadership skills, in addition to educating himself about other professions and at the same time educating others about his professional field. Those leadership and education skills were on display when the club offered classes on cooking to the men’s basketball team. Leadership and fun, clubs have it all!
