What I Enjoy
I really enjoy getting involved on campus. I've been involved with Block & Bridle Club, CALS Ambassadors and served on the Veishea executive board. Through these organizations I have gained valuable leadership skills that helped me both build my resume and get an internship with a U.S. Congressman

Why I came to Iowa State
I did not even know Iowa State University existed until February of my senior year in high school. I came to tour campus and was impressed with the beauty of the campus and the quality of the animal science department. I was the recipient of some scholarships and I decided that I was ready to start my adventure here at Iowa State. I’ve been here three years and I realize that Iowa State was where I was meant to be.

My Experiences
I have talked a little about my on-campus activities. But one experience that I have enjoyed was my internship over the summer. I worked for U.S. Congressman Rubén Hinojosa in his district office. This was a great experience and I participated first hand in our legislative process. Whether it was talking to constituents about policies in the district, helping plan a medal ceremony, or representing the Congressman at different events in the district when he could not attend. I now have a better view of the legislative process and its something I hope to pursue in the future.

What I like about CALS
When you are part of the College of Agriculture and Life Science you are not a number, but rather and individual. It is more like a family, I know a lot of the students and my professors, it is not unusual to walk across campus and say "Hi" to people you pass on the sidewalk. I also like that the College provides more than $1 million in scholarships each year. When I received the Fred Foreman Scholarship, one of the highlights that year was attending the scholarship banquet and having the chance to meet the donors, Dana and Martha Robes. It is great to know the College has alumni that come back and continue to support the College and its students. I look forward to the future when I can give back to this College, which has given me so much.
