Schwab Receives P&S Outstanding Achievement in Extension and Outreach Award

Denise Schwab, northeast Iowa regional beef field specialist for ISU Extension and Outreach, is the recipient of the 2022 Professional and Scientific Outstanding Achievement in Extension and Outreach Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University. As co-leader of the beef extension team, she brings excellence to extension educational programs not only in northeast Iowa, but helps guide programming statewide. She has been instrumental in forage and grazing education and has a long history of developing programs for emerging producers. Her young cattlemen’s peer groups were the prototype for the statewide effort, Beginning and Young Livestock Producers, that was expanded statewide and across livestock species. Schwab was key in the development and implementation of Boots in the Barn, a popular program for cattle women. She is also a leader in the Driftless Region Beef Conference that reaches producers who manage 2.5 million cattle in the tri-state area of Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Schwab is active in the Iowa Agricultural Extension Association and the National Association of County Agricultural Agents, having served as the Iowa president. Most recently, she is involved in planning the 2023 NACAA week-long convention that will be hosted in Iowa.
