  • The Northern Research and Demonstration Farm

    Iowa State’s oldest research farm turns 95

    This year marks the 95th anniversary of Iowa State University’s Northern Research and Demonstration Farm. Originally, the farm's research included several crops, including sugar beets. Now, this property has expanded to include some of the longest-running experiments on soil fertility and crop response to micronutrients, continuously running since the 1960s and 1980s, respectively.

    Iowa Soybean Research Center announces leadership transition

    On July 1, 2025, Iowa State University Associate Professor of Agronomy Mark Licht and Professor of Plant Pathology, Entomology and Microbiology Steve Whitham will join the Iowa Soybean Research Center (ISRC) as co-directors. After 11 years of leadership, founding ISRC Director and Morrill Professor of Plant Pathology, Entomology and Microbiology Greg Tylka will step away from the center at the end of 2025 to focus on his research responsibilities.

    Iowa State study shows packaging impact on bacon color, consumer appeal

    A recent study at Iowa State University showed how packaging can affect consumer choices for bacon, America’s favorite pork product. Stephanie Major, a senior in animal science and meat science, helped lead the research, working with Terry Houser, associate professor of animal science and extension meat specialist.

    Senior set to make biomedical industry more affordable

    Arianna Hyczko, senior in industrial technology, has always wanted to help people. When she was young, she thought she would be a doctor or a pharmacist. As she started her journey at Iowa State University, she was able to develop her love for science through exploring technology and computer-aided design, or CAD.
