Pederson Receives P&S Excellence Award

Carl Pederson, agricultural specialist in agricultural and biosystems engineering, is the recipient of the 2022 Professional and Scientific Excellence Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University. Pederson has been critical to water quality field research through leading installation of monitoring equipment at numerous sites. His work has become even more important as these research facilities are essential for practice documentation associated with the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy. Pederson also serves the college at large as a resource for other research programs, including applying liquid swine manure for projects due to his knowledge of a specialized manure applicator. A colleague states, “Without a doubt, Carl has been essential in Iowa State being viewed as a leader in agriculture water quality monitoring and evaluation.”

Often unnoticed in research programs that link multiple Iowa State departments is the difficult job of networking. Pederson builds strong relationships between research scientists, research farm superintendents, fellow P&S workers and graduate students. His ability to build project networks is a critical component to the success of many programs.
