Panel at Iowa State University to Discuss Bringing Technology to the Marketplace

AMES, Iowa — A panel of Iowa entrepreneurs will share their stories about bringing technology to the marketplace at the Iowa State University Center for Crops Utilization Research and BioCentury Research Farm Nov. 8 affiliates meeting.

The Center for Crops Utilization Research (CCUR) and BioCentury Research Farm will host three presenters who will talk about the innovation process and the challenges they faced in commercializing products. The event is open to the public.

The presenters will be:

  • Fuyuan Jing, founder and president of VariFAS, LLC. He is commercializing his doctoral research to produce novel fatty acids from agricultural sugars through microbial fermentation.
  • Robert Riley Jr., chairman of the board of the Riley Resource Group. In 1986, Riley purchased Feed Energy Co., a fats and oils processor, and began building the company with products that has led to five related companies.
  • Daniel Oh, president and CEO of OEI Inc. and vice chair and board director at Ames Economic Development Commission. He was president and chief executive officer of Renewable Energy Group Inc., North America’s largest producer of biofuel with 14 biorefineries.

A panel discussion and reception will follow the presentations. The program will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the CCUR Technology Transfer Theatre, 1951 Food Sciences Building.
