National Agri-Marketing Association Honors Iowa State Student Chapter, President

AMES, Iowa ¬— The Iowa State National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) chapter was presented the John Deere Signature Award at the association's annual conference and trade show April 22-24 in Kansas City, Mo. The chapter won the award for overall points accrued for student participation, involvement in the national competition, scholarship awards and its annual report. The team received a $3,000 check with the award that will be used for future chapter activities. In addition, Darrin Rahn, a senior in agricultural business and marketing from Mt. Carroll, Ill. was awarded the 2011 Successful Farming/Fergie Ferguson Outstanding Student Award. Rahn is the president of Iowa State's student NAMA chapter and president of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council. Rahn received a $4,000 scholarship with the award. The chapter participated in NAMA's annual marketing competition advancing to the semi-final round. To compete, students developed a business plan and professional presentation to market a new product or service. This year the team marketed MastPro, a subclinical mastitis treatment for the dairy industry. The team was judged by a panel of marketing and agribusiness professionals. Team members included: Rahn, Carly Cummings and Elizabeth Burns-Thompson, all seniors in agricultural business; Britney Heim, a senior in agricultural communications; Abby Webb and Amber Smith, both juniors in marketing; Abby Gooder and Kaci DeMott, both juniors in agricultural business; Ellie Weiss, junior in agricultural studies; Zach Boss, Andy Edson, Bethany Olson and Ben Zelle, all sophomores in agricultural business; Brittney Jurgemeyer, sophomore in public service and administration in agriculture; Donna McCune, Emily Flory, Alicia Humphrey, Dacia Dykstra and Matthew Costello, all freshmen in agricultural business. The team is coached by Stacey Noe, Agricultural Entrepreneurial Initiative program coordinator, and Lori Youngberg, program assistant. The chapter also received third place Outstanding Chapter award. ##
