AMES, Iowa— Monsanto and Iowa State University have partnered to establish the Monsanto Agricultural Scholars Fund to furnish scholarships for undergraduate students in Iowa State's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
An employee goal has been established and Monsanto will match contributions designated to the Monsanto Agriculture Scholars program. Once the goal is obtained, the fund will be able to award up to 20 scholarships of $1,000 annually over five years.
"Monsanto employs a large number of Iowa State University alumni," said Clinton Pilcher, the company's regional technology development director. "These employees, as well as Monsanto at large, recognize the need to invest in developing future talent so that Monsanto may continue to strive towards our commitment to sustainable agriculture." Pilcher holds master's and Ph.D. degrees in entomology from Iowa State University.
Students eligible for the scholarships must major in a degree program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Additional consideration will be given to incoming freshmen with FFA or 4-H involvement and to current students for leadership and community involvement.
Monsanto employees may contribute online on the Iowa State University Foundation's Web site at www.foundation.iastate.edu/monsanto.
