AMES, Iowa — The Agriculture Communicators of Tomorrow (ACT) student organization at Iowa State University is holding an essay contest for high school freshmen and sophomore students.
The winner of the contest will be awarded a $500 scholarship to Iowa State. Second place will win a $300 scholarship and third place will win a $200 scholarship. The scholarship will be held until the recipient enters Iowa State's College of Agriculture as either a freshman or transfer student.
The essay topic is: What Agriculture Means to Me: My Community.
"This is a great opportunity for students to be creative and showcase their writing ability, while also reflecting on the importance of their community's relationship with agriculture," said Cliff Dolbeare, ACT chapter president. "We encourage all interested high school freshmen and sophomores to apply."
To apply, students submit an application form with their essay by March 30. Application forms are available at: www.ageds.iastate.edu.
Essays winners will be selected by members of the ISU ACT chapter. Selection will be based on the content and technical writing quality of the essay. ACT will notify the winning entrants by April 11. Formal announcement and recognition of the winners will take place on April 21, during the 2007 VEISHEA celebration.
ACT is a student organization for college students who have a professional interest in the field of communications related to agriculture.
