ISU Plant Sciences Institute Board Named

AMES, Iowa — Thirteen leaders of agricultural industry, plant sciences research, commodity groups and government have been named to the board of the Plant Sciences Institute at Iowa State University.

They will assemble in Ames on Tuesday, Oct. 22, for the inaugural meeting of the Plant Sciences Institute Board. The board will discuss the institute's strategic plan, accomplishments, financial reports, budget plan, economic development and plans for the Roy J. Carver Co-laboratory and business incubator.

Rick McConnell, president of Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc., Johnston, is the organizing chair of the board.

The Plant Sciences Institute at Iowa State University is dedicated to becoming one of the world's leading institutes for plant science research, education and unbiased research-based information. Researchers in nine centers of the institute seek fundamental knowledge about the functioning of plants and are developing ways to help feed the growing world population, strengthen human health and nutrition, improve crop quality and yield, foster environmental sustainability and expand the uses of plants for biobased products and bioenergy.
