AMES, Iowa — Kenneth Moore, Iowa State University agronomy professor, has been named the 2006-2007 president-elect of the American Society of Agronomy (ASA).
Moore took office at the annual meetings of ASA, held in conjunction with the Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) Nov. 12-16 in Indianapolis. He will become the 101st president of ASA during the association's 100th anniversary celebration at the 2007 annual meetings.
Moore earned his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University and his master's and doctorate degrees from Purdue University.
His research involves the development of improved systems for the production and utilization of biomass and forage crops. He is the director of the Master of Science in Agronomy distance education program and Crop Adviser Institute at Iowa State. He is a fellow of CSSA and ASA and was president of the CSSA in 2004.
As president of ASA Moore will lead the organization in all activities; preside over executive and board meetings; maintain close coordination with the executives of CSSA and SSSA; serve on the ASA executive committee; set the society agenda for the current year; and represent the society at activities and events.
ASA, CSSA and SSSA are professional/scientific and educational organizations with more than 11,000 members.
