DES MOINES, Iowa -- A new agricultural exhibit in the Iowa Hall of Pride features Iowa State University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
The Iowa State portion of an exhibit about agriculture in Iowa includes video interviews with current students about majors, career options and college experiences. The kiosk also includes an Iowa State video titled, "Follow Your Dreams." The video illustrates the broad range of opportunities related to agriculture from food, natural resources and many other areas. To view the video go to: http://www.youtube.com/user/iowastatecals
"Agriculture is important to Iowa and its future," said Wendy Wintersteen, the dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. "Informational exhibits like the one in the Iowa Hall of Pride help us share that story."
A video interview with Wintersteen in the exhibit highlights the college and its importance to Iowa and students.
The Iowa Hall of Pride partnered with several Iowa agricultural groups to tell the story of modern agriculture, which involves the latest equipment, production methods and technology. Other exhibits in the Iowa Hall of Pride focus on the extra-curricular activities in Iowa high schools, such as athletics, music, dance, drama, cheerleading and art.
"We wanted to share the story of Iowa agriculture, which is more than its history and includes the changing technology and opportunities in the future," said Jack Lashier, director of the Iowa Hall of Pride.
The students video interviews in the exhibit include: Alyssa Foster, a senior in agricultural and life sciences education from Riverside, Iowa; Bethany Olson, a senior in agricultural business from Jewell, Iowa; Brandi Malchow, a junior in agricultural biochemistry from Altura, Minn.; Brent Sexton, a senior in animal science from Rockwell City, Iowa; Nathan Johnston, a senior in agricultural business from Jewell, Iowa; and Miranda Furrer, a senior in animal ecology from Hanna City, Ill.
The Iowa Hall of Pride has more than 90,000 visitors each year and is located in downtown Des Moines. Iowa students from kindergarten to high school seniors are admitted free to see the interactive exhibits.
