Animal Learning Day - April 11

March 31st, 2015

AMES, Iowa — The Iowa State University Block and Bridle Club will host an animal learning day on April 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jeff and Deb Hansen Learning Center, which is located at 2516 Mortensen Road in Ames.

The learning day will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about animals in agriculture. Iowa State students from the Block and Bridle Club will have calves, piglets, lambs, goats and baby chicks for attendees to interact with and learn about.

The purpose is to give attendees a better understanding of agricultural practices and build awareness about agricultural industries and commodities. Experts will be available to answer questions about agricultural practices.

The event will include a "Taste of Iowa" segment. Participants will get cooking tips and recipes. The displays will include tastings and activities to help children learn more about food.

A shortened version of the movie "Farmland" will be shown continuously during the event. The documentary shares the lives of six young farmers from across the country as they work to manage the risks and rewards of their operations. Complimentary popcorn will be provided during the movie.
