Amy Peyton Named ISU's Inaugural Recipient of Jim and Connie Mohn Study Abroad Scholarship

AMES, Iowa — Amy Peyton has been named the first recipient of the Jim and Connie Mohn Scholarship at Iowa State University. Peyton is a senior with a triple major in agricultural business, economics and public service and administration in agriculture. The Sac City native will use the $2,000 scholarship to fund her study abroad experience to Rome on the Dean's Global Agriculture and Food Leadership program this summer. While in Rome, she will work on a team project with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. Jim Mohn is a banker at Cherokee State Bank and Connie Mohn works in nurse administration at Cherokee Regional Medical Center. Jim Mohn has bachelor's degrees from Iowa State University in agricultural education and animal science. The Mohns created the scholarship to support students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as they prepare for and complete a study abroad experience. "We hope these scholarships will help retain students by providing an opportunity to study abroad, and help students obtain a degree," Jim Mohn says. "We're looking forward to meeting the recipients and seeing the impact our gift." The couple set up the endowed scholarship with an estate provision. They chose to activate the account immediately by making annual gifts so scholarships could be awarded throughout their lifetime.
