Agriculture Honor Society Presents Awards to Iowa State Alumni, Faculty and Students

AMES, Iowa - Gamma Sigma Delta, the Iowa Chapter of the Honor Society of Agriculture, presented awards to Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences alumni, faculty and students on April 23.

Mission Awards were presented to college faculty who made exceptional contributions to Iowa State’s mission. Those awardees include:

  • Aileen Keating, animal science associate professor, received the Research Mission Award
  • Sherrlyn Olsen, animal science lecturer, received the Teaching Mission Award
  • Joe Cordray, animal science professor, received the International Mission Award
  • Diana Cochran, assistant professor of horticulture, received the Extension Mission Award

Gamma Sigma Delta also recognized Emilie Tamblyn, a sophomore in animal science from Manteno, Illinois; and Ellen Meis, a senior in biology from Le Mars, Iowa; for their academic achievement. The two students received the Awards of Merit for earning the highest grade point average in the sophomore and senior classes.

Lynn Davis received the 2018 Distinguished Achievement in Agriculture Award. Davis lives in Hortonville, Wisconsin and owns Nutrition Professionals Inc. Davis received her bachelor’s degree in 1977, a master’s degree in 1980 and her doctorate degree in 1983 in animal science at Iowa State.

The 2018 Alumni Award of Merit was presented to Travis Knight from Slater, Iowa. He is the laboratory bureau chief for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1989 in agricultural biochemistry, a master’s degree in 1992 in animal science and his doctorate degree in 1999 in biochemistry, biophysics and molecular biology from Iowa State.

During the ceremony the honor society initiated four faculty members, 32 undergraduate students and 40 veterinary medicine and graduate students into its Iowa Chapter. Those inductees include:
