Ag Career Day Brings 149 Employers to Recruit Iowa State Students

AMES, Iowa — Ag Career Day, the largest university career fair for agriculturally related jobs, is set for Oct. 23 on the Iowa State University campus. The annual event reached its maximum number of recruiting companies within two weeks of opening registration. Mike Gaul, director of College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Career Services, said the interest from employers is "indicative of a great job market." "This will be one of the best line ups we've had as far as the diversity of companies," Gaul said. There will be 149 employers with booths at the career fair. Renovations at the Memorial Union, Ag Career Day's location, reduced space for the event. Last year, 155 employers participated. Ag Career Day is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Memorial Union's Great Hall and Campanile Room. Gaul said the career fair kicks-off the recruitment season in the college. More than 80 percent of the year's on-campus interviews for internships and full-time positions occur between the day after Ag Career Day and finals week in December. Historically, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Career Services has a 98 percent placement rate, with graduates on the job or pursuing advanced degrees.
