Walter Suza, adjunct assistant professor in agronomy, shared in a Des Moines Register opinion piece his experience living through one of the largest cholera epidemics in east Africa in the 1970s. He encourages individuals to show compassion during this stressful time:
"My dear neighbors, the lifestyle we have known is now upside down, but the way up is by facing the challenge with compassion and tolerance for one another. These are times when we must recognize our vulnerabilities as individuals and strengths as a society. Our shared humanity is the vessel we must use to sail through the uncharted waters of COVID-19."
