AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University student Genevieve VanWye, a junior majoring in animal science, has been selected as a 2018 Cargill Global Scholar.
The prestigious Cargill Global Scholars Program, a distinctive international scholarship program that began in 2013, offers a scholarship award of $2,500 per year for up to two years.
In addition to scholarship funding, VanWye recently joined the nine other scholars selected for the program’s sixth cohort in the U.S. for a three-day leadership development seminar held at Cargill Headquarters in Minneapolis. During the seminar, VanWye and her fellow scholars received training in a variety of business and leadership skills, toured Cargill’s Food Innovation Center, and got to meet the Cargill business leaders who will serve as their mentors for the next year.
In the summer of 2019, VanWye and her fellow U.S. cohort members will participate in a five-day global leadership seminar with scholars selected for the program from Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, and Russia to further build on their leadership development skills.
The students selected as Global Scholars are those who demonstrate exemplary academic achievement and leadership potential and study in a field relevant to Cargill’s world of food, agriculture and risk management.
VanWye is the ninth Cargill Global Scholar finalist to come from Iowa State University since the program began.
