Discovering a New Passion

Jasmine Moreno is from Des Moines, Iowa currently attends Roosevelt High School. Moreno is working with Aubrey Mendonca, a food science and human nutrition professor, researching common pathogens found in foods. Moreno says the most exciting part of her work is being able to see the pathogens grow, which relates to genetics and is one of her main interests.

What words of advice do you have for someone who has a passion for science?
“Apply for internships because not only does it look great on resumes, but it’s also great experience.”

If you could have one superpower related to science, what would it be?
“Shape shifting because it would be so cool to be able to turn into a bird whenever I want to fly.”

What is your favorite summertime food?
“Ice cream.”

What is one thing you’d like to scratch off of your bucket list?
“I really want to be involved in a big theatre production like Broadway.”
