AMES, Iowa – Ted Crosbie, retired vice president of Monsanto Co., will present the 2015 Carl and Marjory Hertz Lecture on Emerging Issues in Agriculture April 1 at Iowa State University.
Crosbie, known for leading the establishment of one the world’s largest plant breeding programs, will present “Applying an Iowa State Education to Life: A Tribute to My Teachers” at 7 p.m. in the Dolezal Auditorium in Curtiss Hall on the Iowa State campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Prior to his retirement, Crosbie held senior leadership positions at Monsanto since 1996 – most recently as vice president and executive leader of integrated farming systems. He also served terms as vice president of global plant breeding and director of global wheat breeding.
A graduate of Iowa State with a bachelor’s in agricultural education and a master’s and doctorate in plant breeding and cytogenetics, Crosbie also serves as Iowa’s chief technology officer – a position to which he was first appointed in 2005.
Crosbie was the president and CEO of ICI Seeds before joining Monsanto. Prior to 1990, he held various corporate and academic positions including serving as a graduate faculty member in agronomy at Iowa State.
The Carl and Marjory Hertz Lecture on Emerging Issues in Agriculture was created in memory of the founders of Hertz Farm Management to inspire generations of industry leaders, research scientists and young professionals to reach their full potential.
