AMES, Iowa — The 2014 Carl and Marjory Hertz Lecture on Emerging Issues in Agriculture will be presented by Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience, on April 3 at Iowa State University.
Blome will offer his perspective on issues facing the agriculture industry at 7 p.m. in the Dolezal Auditorium in Curtiss Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Raised on a farm near Hubbard, Iowa, Blome is an agronomy and pest management graduate of Iowa State. He is the head of crop protection for the company’s North American region, located in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Under his leadership, Bayer CropScience North America launched several initiatives to support the future of agriculture, including the Young Farmer Sustainability Award and the newly-constructed North American Bee Care Center.
Prior to his current position with Bayer CropScience, Blome served in executive positions at Valent USA Corp., Agriliance LLC, Agtrol International and Griffin LLC.
Blome serves as a board member for the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Directors of CropLife America, National FFA Organization Sponsors Board, North Carolina Agricultural Biotechnology Advisory Council and the ISU Masters of Business Administration Executive Advisory Council. While at ISU, Blome was a member of the Agronomy Club and Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity.
The Carl and Marjory Hertz Lecture on Emerging Issues in Agriculture was created in memory of the founders of Hertz Farm Management to inspire generations of industry leaders, research scientists and young professionals to reach their full potential.
