University Compost Facility dedicated

Steam, generated by the decomposition process, rises from a compost windrow.

A machine turns a windrow in a hoop structure.
Steam is released as the compost is turned.

The University Compost Facility was created in 2008 to handle solid dairy manure from the new Dairy Farm. Organic waste from campus landscaping and Dining Service also are being composted at the facility, which is designed to handle 10,000 tons annually.
