Bruce Babcock, professor of economics at Iowa State University and director of the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development, will appear before the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs May 7 in a hearing on fuel subsidies and their impacts on food prices. Babcock's testimony will focus on federal ethanol policies and their short- and long-term impacts on the price and availability of ethanol, corn and other agricultural products. The hearing will begin at 10 a.m. (EST) in Room 342 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. The committee will be chaired by Sen. Joe Lieberman. Babcock's statement to the committee will be posted to the CARD Web site (http://www.card.iastate.edu) after the hearing.
