December 13, 2021With passports in hand and suitcases in tow, two groups of students from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences boarded planes to study abroad during Iowa State University’s fall break. These faculty-led programs to Costa Rica and the United Arab Emirates provided students opportunities to witness international agriculture and develop a global perspective of the industry.

Claudia Lemper-Manahl, associate teaching professor in plant pathology and microbiology, recently came into possession of approximately 30,000 fun-shaped, squeeze toy stress relievers. She began distributing part of the stash to various offices on campus, and the toys have been a big hit with the students (and faculty).

Since stepping foot on Iowa State University’s campus as a student in fall 2019, Stefany Naranjo has been making great strides in combatting food insecurity and promoting a more inclusive environment. It was her efforts in the latter that led to her being named the fall 2021 CALS Student Council Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion Award winner.

November 30, 2021Cheryl Morris, associate professor of animal science, spent the last 15 years working as the vice president of conservation sciences at the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium in Omaha, Nebraska. She returned to Iowa State this year and is sharing with students her knowledge about exotic animals and how they compare/contrast to production animals.

Students from Iowa State University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and College of Design joined forces Nov. 13-14 to take part in a design charrette – a short, collaborative session during which a group of people come together to draft a solution to a design problem. The students were tasked with creating design concepts for two CALS-owned collaborative learning labs on the fourth floor of the new Student Innovation Center.
