In order to offer students advanced study in the theory and application of nutrition and exercise science the diet and exercise program was established at Iowa State.
Areas of research within the Diet and Exercise include:
Exercise science - Endocrinology, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Motor Control / Learning Development, and Exercise Psychology
Nutrition - Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, Nutrition Physiology and Metabolism, and Wellness
Chronic Disease - Aging, Cardiovascular Disease, Cancer, and Overweight / Obesity
The program meets the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics requirements for students to pursue an accredited Dietetic Internship and become a Registered Dietitian (RD). The program also meets ACSM requirements for students to pursue certification at the level of Health Fitness Instructor.
