Over the past couple of weeks, I have had the opportunity to attend two events that have left a distinct impression—what really struck me is the creativity and passion for conservation and sustaining rural communities.

Webinar: Making Water Quality Impacts at the Edge of Fields

The webinar “Better Utilizing the Field Edge: Saturated Buffers and Bioreactors,” Jan. 12 at noon CST will feature Matt Helmers, professor in the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at ISU and director of the Iowa Nutrient Research Center. He will draw on his expertise with field drainage systems and drainage water quality in this session. The meeting is hosted by the Iowa Learning Farms.

Conservation on Tap

Wednesday, November 30, 2022 - 6:00pm

Farmers, landowners and those interested in local conservation issues can discuss what’s on their mind at the “Conservation on Tap” event Nov. 30 at the Iowa Distilling Co., 4349 Cumming Ave., Cumming, Iowa, from 6-7 p.m. The in-person event is hosted by Iowa Learning Farms and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, in collaboration with Iowa State’s Conservation Learning Group. Hosts will include Matt Helmers, director of the Iowa Nutrient Research Center at Iowa State, and Mark Licht, assistant professor in agronomy and cropping systems specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach. ISU Research Farms Virtual Field Days

Monday, August 31, 2020 - 8:00am

Hear about the latest research being conducted on ISU Research and Demonstration Farms across the state during a series of short, interactive webinars, Monday, Aug. 31, through Friday, Sept. 4. Tours begin each day at 8:00 a.m. ISU Extension Specialists, including INRC Director Matt Helmers (on Tuesday, Sept. 1) will take you into the field, explain what they're seeing and answer your questions. Each morning tour stop features 20 minutes of in-field video, drone footage and presentation. Presenters will be available following the tour to take questions from attendees.
