Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the Iowa Nutrient Research Center will host a free half-day workshop on the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy and incorporating nutrient reduction practices into your farm operation on Friday, August 4th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. The workshop will be held at Iowa State University's Extension and Outreach Field Extension and Education Laboratory near Boone, IA.
The first half of the workshop will cover the purpose, need, action items, and benefits of the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy. The second half of the workshop will walk participants through creating a basic nutrient reduction plan for their farm and using two tools, the Nutrient Tracking Tool and the N Load calculator, to estimate nitrogen and phosphorus loss from their row crop acres under current management conditions and their proposed nutrient reduction plan. The workshop will have information on both tile drained and undrained lands.
“We hope participants will gain a better understanding of and appreciation for the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy, while also learning to use tools that can help them create a nutrient reduction plan for their farm” said INRC Director Matt Helmers.
The free workshop is open to farmers, landowners, and conservation professionals interested in learning more about the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy and nutrient reduction practices. Registration is required (https://iastate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dnaXmZ2pNa0jWLk) and participation is limited to the first 25 individuals to register. A boxed lunch and refreshments will be provided.
Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet to use the online Nutrient Tracking Tool and nitrogen load calculator excel module during the workshop.
This event is sponsored by an Excellence in Extension grant through Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and the Iowa Nutrient Research Center. Additional information can be found at https://www.cals.iastate.edu/inrc/iowa-nutrient-reduction-strategy-and-your-farm-workshop
