Huff-Lonergan Receives Outstanding Achievement in Teaching Award

Elisabeth Huff-Lonergan, professor in animal science, Iowa State University. Elisabeth Huff-Lonergan, professor in animal science, is the recipient of the 2022 Outstanding Achievement in Teaching Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University. For 23 years, she has served her students, her discipline, the college and Iowa State through impactful work as an educator and researcher. Her innovation has resulted in high-impact practices in student learning, unique study abroad opportunities, experiential learning, and one-of-a-kind integrated coursework. Her leadership and service in curriculum development and faculty efforts for continuous improvement in teaching extend the impact of her innovation. Huff-Lonergan also teaches in the Dean’s Global Agriculture and Food Leadership Program, which combines a semester-long course on campus with a month-long course in Rome, where students work directly with professional teams at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. A colleague states, “Her personal commitment to each student is evident and powerful…She is respectful of the students and they trust her.” 

In addition to being an outstanding instructor of fundamental meat science and muscle biology courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels, Huff-Lonergan is an internationally known and highly respected researcher in her field. She is a fellow in three of the major societies that serve her discipline, an inspiration to students and a role model to women in her field.
