Laura Greiner, associate professor in animal science and director of the Iowa Pork Industry Center, is the recipient of the 2026 Dean Lee R. Kolmer Award for Excellence in Applied Research from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University. Since joining Iowa State, she has led research improving nutrient efficiency, animal health, feed optimization and environmental sustainability.
Greiner's research program focuses on addressing critical and timely challenges in modern pork production. Her work identifies nutritional strategies that enhance sow performance, improve environmental sustainability, and support the growth and health of young pigs. Her studies translate directly to industry practices, guiding commercial diet formulation, production strategies and crisis response.
"Throughout her tenure at Iowa State, Dr. Greiner has established a highly effective and impactful applied research program," stated a colleague. "Her research has engaged industry partners, swine producers and university collaborators from the conceptual stage through to field implementation."
