Kate Gilbert, associate teaching professor in food science and human nutrition, is the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching by Term Faculty Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University. She has taught numerous courses in the department, ranging from those with more than 100 students required for undergraduate majors, to small, highly interactive discussion-based courses for six to 15 students. She consistently improves the student learning experience through innovation and enthusiasm.
Gilbert developed a professional development course for students majoring in food science. With seven years of experience in the food industry, she is passionate about preparing students to be confident and informed about the internship/job application process. Gilbert also serves as advisor for the Food Science Club and College Bowl Team.
