Gaul receives Service and Dedication Award

Alan Gaul

Alan Gaul, seed conditioning specialist with the Seed Science Center, is the recipient of the staff 2026 Service and Dedication Award from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University. For two decades he has shown unwavering commitment, creativity and leadership, managing world-renowned seed conditioning workshops, mentoring students and strengthening global collaborations.

Gaul's seed conditioning workshops, a hallmark program at Iowa State, have trained generations of seed professionals from across the globe. His ability to explain complex machinery systems with clarity and enthusiasm reflects not only his deep technical knowledge, but also his natural gift as an educator. He also takes great pride in mentoring students, helping them understand that seed science is both a technical discipline and a global enterprise that sustains agricultural productivity.

"Whether it is the director general of the Food and Agriculture Organization or a group of elementary school students touring the center, Alan's enthusiasm for demonstrating the science and art of seed conditioning leaves an indelible impression," stated a colleague.
