Food Science Crash Course

Students at cooking stations with computer monitors pour food into bowls on a scale.

Are you curious about how new food products are created? Join us for the Food Science Crash Course, a fast-paced, hands-on workshop designed for high school students and teachers interested in food, science, and innovation.

High school educators are invited to select up to two high school students to participate in the Food Science Crash Course Workshop at Iowa State University hosted by the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition.

Registration is not available for this event at this time.

Participants will experience the complete food product development process—from understanding consumer trends and creating product concepts to formulating recipes, evaluating quality and food safety, conducting sensory testing, analyzing nutrition information, and developing package labels. Then students will put their skills to the test in a mini development challenge and compete for prizes.

Whether you're exploring careers in food science, preparing for the FFA Food Science CDE, or looking for engaging classroom activities, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn from Iowa State University faculty and students. Come discover how science, creativity, and business come together to bring new foods to market!
