Future Plant Pathologist Follows Passion

Hannah Talton is from Greensboro, North Carolina and currently attends North Carolina A&T State University. Talton is working with Stephen Howell, a genetics, development and cell biology professor, researching stress in maize. Talton’s experience fits her dream of attending graduate school for plant pathology after graduation next year.

How do you feel this internship will help you with your goals in life?
“I will have the much needed lab skills that I could use in any lab.”

What advice do you have for someone who has a passion for science?
“I would tell a young person what I told myself. Science is innovative, science is fun, science is frustrating, but in the bulk of it all, science is discovery.”

What is something you’d like to scratch off of your bucket list?
“Horseback riding.”

What has been your favorite restaurant while in Ames or Iowa?
“Buffalo Wild Wings.”

What do you like most about Ames?
“The campus is really nice and peaceful.”
