Graduate Student Wins Food Development Competition

Hanyu Yangcheng, graduate student in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, won a national food product development award at a competition sponsored by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT). 

Yangcheng won the IFT Global Student Innovation Challenge at IFT15 in Chicago on July 13. The top prize was for his KIK-Food Stabilizer System. It can be used in dairy desserts to provide body, improve texture and mouthfeel, increase stability and shelf life, and enhance sweetness, he said. His adviser is Stephanie Clark, associate professor in food science and human nutrition.

The IFT Global Student Innovation Challenge is designed to foster student innovation and scientific exploration of global food science issues.
