Ken Ziegler served as Iowa State University’s Iowa Corn Yield Test Program leader and developed and became the university’s Popcorn Breeding Program project leader from 1977 until his retirement in 2004. Following retirement, he continued breeding and popping popcorn to improve its overall quality.

Iowa State University’s Center for Sustainable Livelihoods in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences has worked in Uganda since 2004. Its programs include service-learning and school garden programs affiliated with Makerere University in Kampala. Now, though, it has a new, temporary assignment: helping supply much-needed food during the pandemic.
