What is the Southeast Research and Demonstration Farm?
The Southeast Iowa Agricultural Research Association purchased the main farm in 1987 and it is a vital part of a network of research facilities throughout the state. As the need for research grew, the farm also saw a need for growth. In 2002 an adjacent tract of land was purchased through the support of many generous sponsors. The now 273-acre farm located in Washington and Louisa counties is home to over 40 yearly research projects, dozens of educational events, and many outreach programs. The research conducted at the farm has local, national and worldwide influences. Information gathered at the farm is used to enhance farm profitability, improve water quality, preserve natural resources, and engage the next generation in agriculture.
Why a new Research and Learning Center?
The new Research and Learning Center will serve as a facility to host educational programs, expand outreach events, support research projects, and increase equipment maintenance capacity. With the advancement of larger modern equipment, enhanced research opportunities, and expansion of the educational footprint, the new Research and Learning Center will be the centerpiece to continue the excellence in research and education for many years.
- Enhanced classroom space that allows for the expansion of education and outreach
- Improved facilities for farm staff and researchers to maintain and calibrate equipment
- Flexibility in providing space for evening or weather dependent events
- ADA accessible restrooms
- Modern learning environment
