Asian Soybean Rust Found in Bin of Iowa Soybeans

Asian soybean rust has been conclusively identified on soybean plant tissue, which was submitted to the Iowa Soybean Rust Team. The soybean residue is reported to have been recovered from a bin of soybeans produced in Iowa in 2006.

Club Officers Lawn Mower Service This Weekend

The Agricultural Systems Technology Club is holding its 29th annual Lawn Mower Service Days Friday and Saturday. The service will be 1 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 30, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 31. Lawn mowers can be dropped off in the Davidson Hall courtyard (south of the Molecular Biology building). Pick up and delivery is available at a cost of $10 for push mowers and $15 for riding mowers by calling 4-0462 or (515) 450-0011. Service includes oil change, new spark plug, air filter cleaning, blade sharpening and washing. The cost is $25 for push mowers and $30 for riding mowers. The club does not do repairs and requests that only mowers that were in running order last fall be serviced.

Block and Bridle Cake Auction Thursday

The annual Block and Bridle Cake Auction is March 29. Cake judging starts at 4:30 p.m. with the auction at 5 p.m. Cakes can be dropped off in the pavilion from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.

Gamma Sigma Delta Meeting April 3

Gamma Sigma Delta, the Honor Society of Agriculture, will hold its initiation and awards ceremony at 5 p.m. April 3 in the Sun Room of the Memorial Union. A reception will follow the ceremony. Greg Miller, agricultural education and studies, is president of Gamma Sigma Delta and will serve as master of ceremonies.

Wendell Berry to Speak on Campus

Nationally known farmer, writer, conservationist and philosopher Wendell Berry promises to tackle a host of contemporary agriculture issues as he delivers the 2007 Shivvers Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. April 15 at the Memorial Union. Deere Trains Employees at Research Farm

Last week, Deere & Co. conducted a district-wide instructional and technical school for more than 400 John Deere employees at the ISU FEEL Lab and the Agricultural Engineering/Agronomy Research Farm near Boone. This is the second year John Deere has used Iowa State facilities for its in-depth training sessions that feature John Deere tractors and a combine. The new Ag Engineering/Agronomy Research Farm shop allowed a new John Deere combine with heads to be used indoors for teaching.

Celebrate Iowa State's 150th with Sesquicentennial Logo

The Iowa State sesquicentennial logo and its variations were developed to recognize the 150th anniversary of the University's founding. It should be used on communications materials to promote the anniversary celebration. The ISU sesquicentennial logo consists of three graphical elements. These elements should not be separated or used individually. The logo using the horizontal ISU nameplate is the primary sesquicentennial logo and should be used in all applications, if possible. The sesquicentennial logo should not replace the Iowa State nameplate when used in conjunction with an affiliate or department names. The Iowa State University 150 Year Anniversary logos are available online.

Christian Petersen Museum Opening March 22

Visitors will get their first glimpse of the new Christian Petersen Art Museum in the renovated Morrill Hall on March 22. Events include a free open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., tours of the art on campus collection and an evening reception run from 7:30-10 p.m. Tickets are required for the evening event.

National Ag Day Observance Begins Early

While National Ag Day is officially observed March 21, the first day of Spring, this year's celebration began March 15 with the National Ag Day Luncheon in Washington, D.C. The theme of this year's luncheon was "The Convergence of Food and Fuel." Later that day the National FFA supported National Agriculture Day by hosting a rally with the theme "The Powerful Future of American Agriculture" at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Whitten Federal Building.
