Plant Care Information Offered at Horticulture Field Day July 19

AMES, Iowa — The third annual Iowa State University All Horticulture Field Day July 19 has something for everyone who enjoys gardening or caring for their yards. The event will include tours of ornamental plant trials, plastic mulch demonstrations, crop production in high tunnels, information on turfgrass care, vineyard and apple orchard trials and insect and disease studies. There also will be a farmer's market and nonprofit and commercial horticultural exhibits on display. The field day will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Iowa State Horticulture Research Station, 55519 170th St. near Ames. Directions: Go three miles north of Ames on Highway 69, turn east on 170th Street and go 1.5 miles. The station is on the north side. The registration charge is $30, which includes a ribeye sandwich and the trimmings for lunch, and can be found at: www.hort.iastate.edu/news/. Registration for students is $10 and children 10 and younger are free. Checks are to be made payable to ISU Extension.
