News Conference June 9 - U.S. Pork Center of Excellence

The U.S. Pork Center of Excellence will host a news conference June 9 at the World Pork Expo. The event will begin at 10:15 a.m. in the Media Center at the World Pork Expo, which is June 8-10 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. The purpose of the news conference is to introduce the center and announce a new information network to provide pork producers with an easy way to get answers to everyday challenges in pork production. Wendy Wintersteen, dean of the Iowa State University College of Agriculture and chair of the U.S. Pork Center of Excellence board, will introduce the center, the board and its mission. David Meisinger, executive director of the U.S. Pork Center of Excellence, will explain the program activities of the center and and introduce the new Pork Information Gateway (PIG) program. The PIG initiative was developed as an extension component of the center. There will be plenty of time for questions following these presentations. The U.S. Pork Center of Excellence is based at Iowa State University and involves 20 land-grant universities. The center's mission is to add value to the pork industry by facilitating research and learning for pork producers through national collaboration. This public-private partnership is funded by government, industry and academia. The National Pork Producers Council is hosting the news conference as part of its partnership with the center.
