AMES, Iowa — Manjit Misra, director of the Seed Science Center and the Biosafety Institute for Genetically Modified Agricultural Products at Iowa State University, has been named the Dean's Chair for Distinction in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
As holder of the Dean's Chair for Distinction, Misra will expand his international activities related to seed biosafety and work on enhancing the curriculum for the new graduate program in seed technology and business. He will continue to lead the Seed Science Center and the Biosafety Institute for Genetically Modified Agricultural Products, two units supported by the College.
"Seed science and biotechnology are important tools to meet the food and fuel needs of the world," Misra said.
Misra also is a professor in the agricultural and biosystems engineering department. His new appointment was effective July 1.
Dean Wendy Wintersteen established the Dean's Chair for Distinction as part of the Endowed Deanship in Agriculture and Life Sciences. Part of the Dean's intent is to use the resources of the Endowed Deanship to support faculty excellence.
