Media Advisory: Iowa State Co-hosts International Symposium on Animal Welfare and Epidemiology July 14-16

AMES, Iowa - Members of the news media are invited to attend a first-ever conference on animal welfare and epidemiology at Iowa State University July 14-16. "Welfare and Epidemiology Conference: Across Species, Across Disciplines and Across Borders" will be held at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center in Ames. The meeting will bring together scientists from different disciplines to offer their experiences and expertise to address the need for a balanced, multidisciplinary approach to animal welfare issues. The symposium, which will have participation from industry representatives, veterinarians, animal scientists, government personnel, academics and students, will focus on all livestock species and include discussions on: Fundamental research and techniques that have been developed to date in epidemiology and animal welfare science Research opportunities in the interface between epidemiology and animal welfare science; and research programs with an epidemiology and welfare focus Collaborative efforts between established epidemiology and welfare groups across species, disciplines and borders This international symposium is co-hosted by Iowa State University's College of Agriculture and College of Veterinary Medicine, the University of Guelph's Ontario Veterinary College and the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science. It features a distinguished list of speakers with a wide range of experience and expertise in the fields of animal welfare and epidemiology.
