AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State University Student National Agri-Marketing Association (NAMA) chapter placed second in the Student Marketing Team Competition.
To compete, students develop a business plan and a professional presentation to market a new product or service. This year the team marketed Suncrest Family Farms organic duck eggs to upscale Chicago restaurants. The Iowa State chapter’s marketing team advanced to the finals, competing against more than 30 universities.
The Iowa State chapter also received first place honors in the John Deere Signature Award for overall points accrued for student participation, involvement in the national competition, scholarship awards and its annual report. In addition, the chapter took home second place honors for Outstanding Student Chapter Award.
Team members included: Justin DeBower, Dacia Dykstra, Emily Flory, Courtney Harder, Donna McCune, Beth Pleggenkuhl and Marcie Stevenson, all seniors in agricultural business; Kelley Glanz, a senior in public service and administration in agriculture; Alicia Humphrey, Preston Poots and Emily Olson, all seniors in agricultural and life sciences education; Kristen Dierickx, a senior in marketing; Logan Worden, a junior in dairy science; Zak Kerr, a junior in agricultural and life sciences education; Andrew Luzum, a junior in agricultural business; and Jennifer Elliott, a sophomore in agricultural and life sciences education.
The team’s coaches are Stacey Noe, Agricultural Entrepreneurial Initiative program coordinator, and Carly Cummings, program assistant. The competition was held at the association’s annual conference and trade show earlier this month in Jacksonville.
