Hooked on Science is an Iowa State University workshop set for June 16 and 17 designed to make high school students and their mentors aware of career opportunities available in food science and human nutrition. A mentor is someone who contributes to the education of the participating student and other students, such as a high school science teacher. The workshop will include interactive activities and hands-on laboratory experiences in food science and human nutrition. The workshop has seven students and four mentors signed up. Students are from: Darlington School: Rome, Ga.; Centerville High School, Centerville; Woodward-Granger High School, Woodward; Central Lee High School: Donnellson; St. Ignatius College Preparatory School, Chicago; and Ankeny High School. The Iowa State College of Agriculture and Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition are sponsoring the program. It will be held at the Food Sciences Building, MacKay Hall and Human Nutritional Sciences Building on the Iowa State campus. More information is available online. Editor’s note: Reporters who want to cover the workshop and talk to coordinators and participants are asked to contact Lani McKinney.
