2004 Awards Presented by ISU Agriculture Honor Society

Awards were presented Tuesday (April 13) to Iowa State University College of Agriculture faculty, alumni and students by the Iowa Chapter of the Honor Society of Agriculture, known as Gamma Sigma Delta. Eric Hoiberg received the Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award of Merit, the highest award the society gives. Hoiberg is associate dean for academic programs for the ISU College of Agriculture. The award recognizes exemplary contributions to agriculture. Three Mission Awards were presented. The Research Award went to Susan Lamont, professor of animal science. Tom Loynachan, professor of agronomy, received the Teaching Award. The Extension Award went to Elwynn Taylor, professor of agronomy and extension climatologist. Four alumni were recognized. Lloyd Anderson, Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor in Agriculture, and Dale Gruis, Iowa Department of Education state consultant for agricultural education and state advisor to the Iowa FFA Association, each received the Alumni Award of Merit. Gina McAndrews, a post-doctoral research associate in agronomy, and O. Richard Bundy, executive director of development for the ISU College of Agriculture, were presented with alumni memberships to the honor society. The honor society also recognized three undergraduates in the College of Agriculture. Andy Brown, Cedar Rapids, received the Sophomore Scholarship Award of Merit. Brown is majoring in agricultural biochemistry. Seth Schroeder, Odebolt, and Conrad Spangler, Hillsboro, received the Senior Scholarship Award of Merit. Schroeder is majoring in agricultural business. Spangler is majoring in dairy science/pre-veterinary. These awards are presented to students who earn the highest grade point average in the sophomore and senior classes. All three 2004 award recipients hold a perfect 4.0 grade point average. New chapter officers were installed. They are George Brant, animal science, president; Jim Kliebenstein, economics, vice president; and Sherry Pogranichniy, agronomy, secretary-treasurer.
