Studying Livestock Water Quality

Joseph Murdock is from Des Moines, Iowa and currently attends Roosevelt High School. Murdock is working with Steve Ensley, a veterinary diagnostic and production animal medicine clinician, researching veterinary toxicology. Murdock says the most exciting part of his work is being able to conduct his own research compared to high school laboratories. Murdock hopes to pursue a master’s degree after graduating in 2017.

What is the purpose of your research?
“I study the water that cows and sheep are drinking on farms and make sure it is
safe.”

What words of advice do you have for someone who has a passion for science?
“Take every opportunity you can get.”

What is your favorite summertime food?
“Ice cream.”

What is something you’d like to scratch off of your bucket list?
“Free climbing a waterfall.”
